8 April 08 ---Tokyo Day 1

Not sure if I can keep this up but have had encouraging messages from Justin and Nicholas so will give it a go.

Justin tells me that it should be on line not email. Have just tried using blogger.com but all I can get is the Japanese interface. Not much helpm so that will have to wait until we get to France.

Justin also tells me a blog should contain some positives not all negatives!!!

Well today has been a positive day.

Yesterday’s flight was OK after the late start. Got to hotel at 11.30 pm; familiar surroundings after our stay here with the tour in 2005.

Today’s forecast was for strong rain- and it was right- so a day indoors was called for.

Brenda’s choice of expedition was for a visit to a silk weaving museum exhibiting long forgotten arts. The looms were old and the finished material exquisite. Some samples were purchased!!

It was an expedition way out into far suburbs of Tokyo. Metro, then JR then taxi. It really gets one away from the tourist route and we have barely seen a western face or heard a western voice all day.

Only our first day but already we are reminded of the extreme politeness and helpfulness of the Japanese. On several occasions we were helped without even asking for assistance. The last instance today being a young schoolgirl who, having heard us question which platform we needed, came back and led us across the station to our correct post.

We think that perhaps they appreciate that they have Rudge visiting and not Rudd!!!!

On that positive note I will sign off- and investigate other blogging websites.
